Ideas for Enjoying the Season Indoors or Out (Not Just Printables)

Printable activities are only one way to make the holidays more fun. If you’re planning for a full day or want something beyond puzzles and pens, here are a few seasonal ideas I’ve used myself or suggested to care groups:

  • Crafting DIY handmade Christmas ornaments or making custom greeting cards.
  • Cookie Decorating Hour: host a casual competition with simple sugar cookies and sprinkles. Or make it more challenging using secret family recipes.
  • Hot Cocoa & Carol Night: gather for a short singalong with hot chocolate with some peppermint schnapps.
  • Neighborhood Lights Drive: print a simple checklist of decorations to spot from the car.
  • Wrapping Party: add music, snacks, and a few friends to make gift wrapping more joyful.
  • Christmas Memories Circle: share one favorite memory from years past. Add some laughs by guessing whose story it was! Just write the story on a piece of paper and put them all in a hat. (Santa's hat!)
  • Holiday Mall Walk: great if the weather is bad but you want to stretch your legs.

You can mix printable games with these low effort activities to create a full day of festive amusement.

Now let's get to the fun indoor activities that are printable. And free!

8. Christmas Scavenger Hunt

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to spot and check off all 22 festive items hidden in the picture. Sounds simple? Not so fast! These holiday objects love to play hide-and-seek, and some are trickier than they look.

Want to make it more exciting? Set a time limit and turn up the pressure. Race against the clock, or against your group, to see who can find the most items before time runs out. If no one finishes them all, the person with the most check marks earns the title of Holiday Hunt Champion!

To get started, print out a sheet for everyone playing. Don’t forget the essentials: pens, pencils, or crayons... and have a few extras ready in case someone forgets theirs.

And of course, no scavenger hunt is complete without a prize. A favorite cookie, a mini gift, or a small box of chocolates makes a perfect reward. The added surprise brings just the right mix of challenge and cheer to this printable Christmas activity.

May the best hunter win!

9. “Who Am I?” Printable Guessing Game

Can you guess the Christmas movie character on your card using only yes or no questions?

This fun and social printable activity includes 36 ready-to-play cards with Christmas movie stars, plus blank cards so you can add your own favorite characters. A great group game for two or more players!

Supplies Needed:

  • Printed “Who Am I?” game cards (included)
  • Scissors
  • Headbands (or tape to stick cards to your forehead)
  • Timer (optional)

How To Play:

1. Print & Prepare: Cut out the cards and give each player a headband. Use the decorated blank cards if you want to add your own names.

2. Pick a Card (No Peeking!): Each player draws a card and attaches it to their headband so everyone can see it — except them.

3. Ask & Guess: Take turns asking yes/no questions to figure out who you are. For example:

“Am I a man?” “Am I from a cartoon?” “Am I Santa Claus?”

The other players can only respond with "yes," "no," or "maybe."

4. Win the Round: When you’re confident, make a guess on your turn. The first to guess correctly wins the round!

5. Play Again: Keep score over several rounds or set a goal, like “First to 5 wins!”

6. Add a Twist or Two (Optional): Try acting out your character silently, or limit questions to just movie clues for an extra challenge. You can also use a timer to keep the game moving or make it more challenging. Just set a time limit for each player's turn.

This game is always a hit at gatherings, and it’s easily adaptable for different age groups or skill levels. If some cards feel unfamiliar, just remove them before playing.
